Introduction

HTML stands for HyperText Markup Language. It is the standard markup language for creating web pages and web applications.

HTML consists of elements. These are the building blocks of HTML pages. HTML elements are represented by tags.

It was released publicly in late 1991 by Physicist and Internet founder, Tim Berners-Lee.

Easy to use syntax with tags and attributes. Structure on the document is easy to maintain and use.

HTML has its pros and cons:

HTML is almost always used as the backbone for web programming and it is very easy to learn and no installation needed.	To make appealing and interactive webpages for the user you will need to know more technologies such as CSS and JS
HTML constantly gets updated (version 5.2 as of 20/03/2019), and more often than not, imported technologies such as Geo-Location and Canvas get integrated into it which makes HTML more powerful to use.	The new features in HTML (such as Canvas) require more hours to learn plus sometimes the original technologies are better than being imported into HTML. (Canvas seems to be worse, graphic-wise than SVG)
Complete UI with frameworks. Since HTML is under one standard and very structured, this makes the UI very easy to build and manipulate.	You need to write a lot of code for making simple webpages.
It is, by default in every windows so you don' need to purchase any additional software.	Bad security features.

In conclusion:

HTML is a great and easy technology to get started with web programming. It enables you to easily structure your web documents to how you want them to be and, over time, has integrated many new features such as Audio, Web Storage and Video, this is good because you don't have to learn a new language/technology nor you will need to import it or worry about the compatability wiht the browser you are running it on. You can also use HTML with many other technologies / languages as it is used as the base structure of web documents.
