What is the best programming language?

First things first, there's no best language. Every language has it's own designation, advantages and disadvantages.

I want to develop mobile apps!

Java and Kotlin are mostly used for Android apps development. For iOS development, Swift is used.

Interested in web development?

To be able to create websites, you need to learn HTML, CSS and JavaScript in this exact order. HTML is used to write the structure of the webpage. CSS - to add style to your webpage. CSS is not just colors and animations. Layouts are also made with CSS. JavaScript (JS) is used to make websites interactive. Web development is not limited to these three languages. There are a lot of JS frameworks and libraries like React, Angular, Vue etc. For CSS there are preprocessors like SCSS and SASS that allow you to write CSS code easier and with better browser compability (for example, preprocessors add vendor prefixes automatically).

What about desktop apps?

A wide range of programmig languages is used to create desktop apps. C, C++ (SFML, WxWidgets, Qt), C# (UWP, WPF), Java, Python (Tkinter, PyQt5), even JavaScript may be used (not pure JS, of course, but libraries such as Electron.JS). By the way, a fun fact: one of the most popular code editors, Visual Studio Code, has been developed using Electron.JS.

Game development!

Games may be created using absolutely anything: Web-based games (I guess you've seen a lot of them, they mostly have a .io domain name: agar.io, diep.io) are made using the front-end languages (already mentioned above) and some kind of back-end. A popular way to develop games is using a game engine, like Unity (with C#) or Unreal Engine (C++). Games also can be made with Python (Pygame module), but only simple 2D ones, and they're quite hard to develop. As far as I know, Unity is recommended for beginners.

The back-end.

The back-end is basically the server-side of the website, the code that runs not in your browser, but on a server. Some common backend languages are Ruby, PHP, Java, .Net, and Python (Django framework). Server-side web development also requires database management skills.
