Introduction

Chromium OS is a free and open-source operating system designed for running web applications and browsing the World Wide Web. It is the developmen version of Chrome OS, a Lnux distribution made by Google.

Like Chrome OS, Chromium OS is based on the Linux kernel, but its principal user interface is the Chromium web browser rather tha the Google Chrome browser.

Google first published by the Chromium OS source code in late 2009.

Features

Chromium's architecture is based on 3 major components:

The Chromium-based browser and the window manager.
System-level software and user-land services: the Linux kernel, drivers, connection manager, and so on.
Firmware

There are also additional features of Chrome OS which is a operating system derived from Chromium OS.

Pros	Cons
Price - Chromebooks are really cheap compared to devices under other operating systems.	Lack of compatiability - Most software today being developed is still being made to work with Windows first, and other OS's second (and that's a IF). Even though the android library is growing day by day with low cost, cheap apps to be utilised, Windows will always have better quality apps.
Weight - Chromebooks do not require large storage spaces and do not rely on powerful software.	Graphics and Gaming - Chromebooks are not designed to have powerful graphics processors, so any sort of high-end gaming is out of the question. There are a few games that you can download via Google Play, but these are the same sort of games that you can play on your mobile phone. Chromebooks are also notorious for having disappointingly low-resolution displays, and the difference is very noticeable if you're used to working with Full HD displays.
Security - Chromebooks are more secure vs devices on other operating systems. Chrome OS has its own virtus and malware protection.	Video Editing - Online video editors can be used in Chromebook but do not offer as much features as standard desktop video editors do.
Cloud-based storage - Buying a Chromebook gives you access to Google Drive storage (100GB for 2 years). This is a lot of cloud-based storage as compared to the standard amount given to standard users (15GB). Google Drive can be used as a lightweight subtitute for Microsoft Office	Using peripheral hardware - The focus of Chromebooks on Internet-based services will force users to do things differently. Everything has to be done through some sort of online component, so in a sense, you have to rely on good internet to use a Chromebook to its fullest potential.
Battery - Since Chrome OS is less power demanding, a Chromebook can typically stretch its battery life of at least 8 hours. Most standard laptops usually last 6 hours.	Small storage capacity - Most Chromebooks only have a storage of up to 32GB. This is one of the ways that manufacturers have kept Chromebooks cheap and lightweight.

Chromium is an amazing tool to use if you need to work online and not on anything too hardware / graphically intensive. Google drive is a very cheap alternative as compared to Microsoft Office if you just need to work on basic things as opposed to macros and more complex tasks. The cost of a Chromebook is relatively cheap, however Microsoft are now offering cheap laptops as well. You also need the internet to access most of Chrome OS features, whereas with Windows you dont need to use the internet to access important features if you dont want to. Pick wisely.
