Magnus effect

so many people have wondered why a ball moves in a curved line when spinned!.The answer is simple,its all due to the magnus effect.This is the same reason a plane elevates.Magnus effect occurs when the air pressure on one side of an object is greater than the airpressure on the other side.i.e when the speed of the air flowing through one side of an object,moves faster than the speed of air on the other side.Take a close look at this image:

The air moving on one side of this tennis ball is faster than the air moving on the other side,confused?yeah i was just about to explain!Let the direction of the ball be b1.so the direction of the air across the ball is opposite that of b1(ball's direction)

Note:This whole theorem is only applicable while the ball is spinning as it's moving through the air.

Now the ball is spinning anticlockwise.Im trying to use this particular diagram for better understanding.On the upper side of the ball the direction of the spin corresponds with that of the air.So this two forces combine to increase the speed of air on that side.On the lower side,the direction of the spin is opposite that of the air,so these two forces cancel out most of each other thereby the airspeed on that side is reduced.The difference in airpressure/air speed of the two sides creates an effect that pushes the ball out of its rectilinear motion into a curvlinear motion.i.e whenever the velocity of air on one side of an object is greater than the velocity of air on the other,a force is created that pushes the object upwards/downwards towards the side with the lower airpressure(please speed/velocity and pressure are not the same thing!)for more about pressure and velocity visit google
