To make a simple card:

Customize My cards are fully customizable. How?

Card background colors:
There's three colors pre-defined: red, blue and green. Just add the class red, blue or green to color it. <div class="card red"> To add your own, just define a class and set the background-color and maybe a text color with a nice contrast.
To override properties such as padding, use the !important in css like so:
.my-card{ padding: 10px !important; }

This is a blue card!
