Python is used in many applications. In particular, Web Development - such as in Frameworks like Django and Pyramid. MicroFrameworks (such as Flask and Bottle) as well as advanced content management systems (CMS). It also supports several Internet Protocols such as JSON, HTML, XML and E-Mail Processing. It also has libraries which provide support for HTTP requests, HTML parsers, and network programming.

Python is also an easy language to learn compared with other languages such as C# and Java.

Python is also used in Software Development, usually as a support language for the so called development. This can be used for build control and management and in many other ways, such as Roundup or Trac for bug tracking and project management.

Python, unlike quite a lot of other languages is very easy to read, maintain and understand. It is a language perfect for beginners and it benefits you in a number of ways like it helps you to maintain proper syntax and readability through forced indentation. Speaking of which, it requires little ease to code hence which is why it's also good for rapid prototyping and for where speed is not super critical.
