For Loop Tips, Tricks and Hacks

Lesson 1: Addition Increment

A fair amount of people struggle with for loops and other loops in general. Because of this reason I will be offering some general tricks and tips that you can use in order to improve your knowledge on the same. In this tutorial, the examples will be in java. This tutorial assumes basic knowledge in Java. Without wasting much time let's have a look at the general structure of a for loop.


               for(initialization;termination;increment){
    //statements
 }

The general stucture has four main parts. The first part is the initialization, the second is the terimination, the third is the increment and finally the statements which represent the code to be executed within the loop.

For the sake of the tutorial I came up with some vocabulary that may aid us in understanding the workings of a for loop a bit better. I call them, the For Loop key words. Let's dive into some of the key words we will be using with their intended meanings.

Key words

Span - This represents the number of times that a loop will execute(S)
Termination value - This represents the end point of a for loop. If there is no equal sign we usualy subtract one from it(t)
Increment value - This represents the step up value of the loop(n)
Initialization value - This represents the start value of the iteration(I)
iteration value - This represents current value of i during the iteration(i)
