ELECTROMAGNETIC INDUCTION.

Definition:

Electromagnetic induction is the conduction of electromotive force in a conductor when the magnetic flux linking it changes.
Electromotive force is abbreviated as emf.

Laws of electromagnetic induction:

Faraday's law:
When the magnetic flux linking a conductor changes, emf is induced in the conductor, and the magnitude of induced emf is proportional to the rate of change of magnetic flux linkage.

Lenz's law:
Induced emf acts in such a way as to oppose the change causing it, and it opposes when the induced current flows.

Types of electromagnetic induction:

Self Induction:
It is the production of electromotive force in a conductor caused by change in current flowing in the same conductor.

Mutual Induction:
It is thr production of electromotive force in a conductor caused by change in current flowing in a nearby conductor.

Eddy Currents.

When magnetic flux linking a conductor changes,emf is induced in the conductor.The induced current forms closed loops that circulate within the body of the conductor. These currents are called eddy currents.
Therefore, we can deduce that: eddy current is the current which circulates in a closed loop in a conductor when emf is induced in it.

Applications of eddy currents:

Magnetic damping in moving coil meters.
Magnetic damping in beam balances.
Magnetic breaks in trains.
Induction motor.
Induction furnace.
