Ada is a structured, statically typed imperative computer programming language. Ada was initially standardized by ANSI in 1983 and by ISO in 1987. This version of the language is commonly known as Ada 83. The next version was standardized by ISO in 1995 (ISO/IEC 8652:1995) and is commonly known as Ada 95. Following that ISO published ISO/IEC 8652:1995/Amd 1:2007 in 2007, which is commonly known as Ada 2005. Most recently ISO published ISO/IEC 8652:2012(E), commonly known as Ada 2012. Formally only the most recent version of the language is known as Ada.

The language is named after Augusta Ada King, Countess of Lovelace thought to be the first ever programmer. Initially it was designed for U.S. Department of Defense. The language is used for large and mission-critical systems.

APL (A Programming Language) is an array oriented, functional, interactive programming language created and developed by Kenneth Iverson in the 1960's. It uses a large range of special graphic symbols to represent functions and operators, giving very concise code. It influenced many other programming languages such as J and Mathematica.

Astro is a fun safe language for rapid prototyping and high performance applications. Astro provides a sophisticated compiler with full type inference, compile-time garbage collection, and an extensive mathematical function library. It pushes multiple dispatch as its primary paradigm but borrows from several other paradigms as well.

BASIC is the Beginner's All-purpose Symbolic Instruction Code. John G. Kemeny and Thomas E. Kurtz invented BASIC at Dartmouth College during 1963 and 1964.

BASIC became popular, with many different implementations for various computers. As the decades passed, the many dialects of BASIC diverged from the original language. Though an ANSI standard exists for BASIC, it is irrelevant to most BASIC programmers, who only target one implementation of BASIC.

BBC BASIC is a version of the BASIC programming language. It is notable for being one of the few modern dialects that makes no attempt to be compatible to any great degree with Microsoft BASICs.

Factor is a stack-based, concatenative, general-purpose programming language with a focus on practicality.

Initially developed by Slava Pestov, Factor began life in 2003 as a scripting language written for a game. The implementation was originally an interpreter written in Java, but has since gained an optimizing compiler and has been rewritten in Factor with a minimal C core. Factor is a stack language similar to, but of a higher level than, Forth. Factor is a concatenative language, meaning that rather than applying functions to arguments (applicative languages) to evaluate things, we compose functions to evaluate a single piece of data — the entire program up until that particular point. In Factor, the basic structure of data flow is function composition. That is, foo bar baz is equivalent to baz(bar(foo())) in an applicative language. This offers a nice left-to-right style of reading and data flow.

Forth, a procedural, stack-oriented and reflective programming language without type checking, Forth features both interactive execution of commands (making it suitable as a shell for systems that lack a more formal operating system) and the ability to compile sequences of commands for later execution. Some Forth versions (especially early ones) compile threaded code, but many implementations today generate optimized machine code like other language compilers.

GDScript is a high level, dynamically typed programming language used to create content. It uses a syntax similar to Python (blocks are indent-based and many keywords are similar). Its goal is to be optimized for and tightly integrated with Godot Engine, allowing great flexibility for content creation and integration.

GDScript evolved as a custom scripting language to be used with the Godot computer (and mobile device) game engine, and for those people who look beyond the real world, it also supports Virtual Reality.

Haskell is a standardized purely functional programming language with non-strict semantics, named after the logician Haskell Curry. It is one of the more popular functional languages, and the lazy functional language on which the most research is being performed.

Although Haskell has a comparatively small user community, its strengths have been well applied to a few projects. Audrey Tang's Pugs is an implementation for the forthcoming Perl 6 language with an interpreter and compilers that proved useful already after just a few months of its writing. Darcs is a revision control system, with several innovative features. Linspire GNU/Linux chose Haskell for system tools development.

J is a notational programming language designed for interactive use.

It is an array language; data is universally structured as rectangular arrays.

It is a functional language; creation and composition of functions is emphasized.

The J programming language was designed and developed by Ken Iverson and Roger Hui. It is a closely related successor to APL, also by Iverson which itself was a successor to the notation Ken Iverson used to teach his classes about computers in the 1950s.

Julia is a high-level, high-performance dynamic programming language for technical computing, with syntax silimar to MATLAB's. It provides a sophisticated compiler, distributed parallel execution, numerical accuracy, and an extensive mathematical function library. It is a functional language that uses multiple dispatch as its primary paradigm. It has first-class types and homoiconic macros.

Liberty BASIC is a procedural programming language for Windows PCs, created by Shoptalk Systems. It was intended as a simple way to create professional programs, with full GUI ability, while still keeping a very simple BASIC syntax. While the current version only supports Windows, the next major release will support Mac OS X and Linux as well. Liberty BASIC runs under Wine on Linux at present.

LiveCode (formerly known as Revolution) is a byte-code compiled language created by Runtime Revolution.

Mercury is a purely declarative functional logic programming language geared towards real-world applications. It is related to both Prolog and Haskell. It features a strong, static, polymorphic type system, as well as a strong mode and determinism system.

Mercury has several back-ends, Low-level C, High-level C, Java, Erlang, and C#.

Nim (formerly known as Nimrod) is a general purpose, high-level, system programming, statically typed imperative compiled programming language that is developed by Andreas Rumpf. There is a lot of focus on portability and efficiency. The language compiles to C, C++ and JavaScript. Nim is actively being developed. The language has extensive documentation, and a very good tutorial.

OCaml (formerly known as Objective Caml) is the main implementation of the Caml programming language, created by Xavier Leroy, Jérôme Vouillon, Damien Doligez, Didier Rémy and others in 1996. OCaml is an open source project managed and principally maintained by INRIA.

PureBasic is a high-level programming language by Fantaisie Software based on BASIC rules. PureBasic has been created for beginners and experts alike.

PureBasic is a portable programming language with current up-to-date implementations on Windows, Linux, and MacOS. The same code can be compiled and run natively on each OS. An older version for the Amiga platform is also available, but no longer maintained.

REXX (REstructured eXtended eXecutor) is an interpreted programming language which was developed at IBM. It is a structured high-level programming language which was designed to be both easy to learn and easy to read. Both proprietary and open source interpreters for REXX are available on a wide range of computing platforms, and compilers are available for IBM mainframes.

The Ring programming language is an Innovative and practical general-purpose multi-paradigm scripting language that can be embedded in C/C++ projects, extended using C/C++ code and/or used as standalone language. The supported programming paradigms are Imperative, Procedural, Object-Oriented, Functional, Meta programming, Declarative programming using nested structures, and Natural programming. Its Dynamic Language (Dynamic Typing and Weakly Typed) that compile the source code to byte code then execute it by the Ring Virtual Machine, which is integrated with the Ring Compiler in one program. The first version of the language (around 100,000 lines of C/C++/Ring code) is released on January 25th, 2016

Rust is a general purpose, multi-paradigm, systems programming language sponsored by Mozilla. Its goal is to provide a fast, practical, concurrent language with zero-cost abstractions and strong memory safety. It employs a unique model of ownership to eliminate data races.

Scheme is a multi-paradigm programming language. It is one of the two main dialects of Lisp and supports a number of programming paradigms; however it is best known for its support of functional programming. It was developed by Guy L. Steele and Gerald Jay Sussman in the 1970s. Scheme was introduced to the academic world via a series of papers, now referred to as Sussman and Steele's Lambda Papers.

Scilab is a free and open source, cross-platform numerical computational package and a high-level, numerically oriented programming language. It can be used for signal processing, statistical analysis, image enhancement, fluid dynamics simulations, numerical optimization, and modeling and simulation of explicit and implicit dynamical systems. MATLAB code, which is similar in syntax, can be converted to Scilab. Scilab is one of several open source alternatives to MATLAB.

Simula is considered the first object-oriented programming language. As its name implies, Simula was designed for doing simulations, and the needs of that domain provided the framework for many of the features of object-oriented languages today.

Standard ML (SML) is a general-purpose, modular, functional programming language with compile-time type checking and type inference. It is popular among compiler writers and programming language researchers, as well as in the development of theorem provers.

Tcl (short for Tool Command Language) is a scripting language with very simple syntax, dynamic typing, automatic storage allocation and garbage collection and native Unicode support.

The Wolfram Language is the programming language that is used in the computational software program, Mathematica. It is a multi-paradigm programming language developed by Wolfram Research. It is designed to be as general as possible, with emphasis on symbolic computation, functional programming, and rule-based programming, as well as built to represent arbitrary structures and data.
