IndexDB

IndexDB is pretty much supported by most Browsers and provides a NoSQL full fledge database for you to use straight from your Browser. As such it requires you to have an understanding of NoSQL databases

IndexDB is the recommeded solution for Browser storage as it is non blocking and Async in nature.

Web Local Storage

Before HTML5, application data had to be stored in cookies, included in every server request. Web storage is more secure, and large amounts of data can be stored locally, without affecting website performance.

Unlike cookies, the storage limit is far larger (at least 5MB) and information is never transferred to the server.

Web storage is per origin (per domain and protocol). All pages, from one origin, can store and access the same data.

Web Session Storage

Session Storage is like Local Storage, but data is cleared when page session ends

A page session lasts for as long as the browser is open and survives over page reloads and restores. Opening a page in a new tab or window will cause a new session to be initiated, which differs from how session cookies work.

Cookies

Cookies were once used for general client-side storage. While this was legitimate when they were the only way to store data on the client, it is recommended nowadays to prefer modern storage APIs.

Cookies are sent with every request, so they can worsen performance (especially for mobile data connections). Modern APIs for client storage are the Web storage API (localStorage and sessionStorage) and IndexedDB.

Web Cache

The Cache interface provides a storage mechanism for Request / Response object pairs that are cached. It can be used to cache page assets for Progressive Web Apps which make use of Service Workers
