What's Beatbox ?

Beatbox is an art . It's basically imitating sound of various instruments from your mouth . Generally , people think that it's just copying sounds of the drum , but a professional beatboxer can make sounds of various things like , a siren , vehicles , etc.

Swissbeatbox

This is the logo of Swissbeatbox ( sbx ) , it's the biggest beatboxing platform in the world and all beatboxers dream is to represent their own country in Grand Beatbox Battle ( which is held by sbx every year ).

Categories

Till 2019 there were 3 categories , namely solo , loopstation , tag team , in 2020 two more were added tag team loop and crew beatbox . To participate , you need to upload a video on your youtube channel ( a wildcard ) , later few months before this championship sbx announce wildcard winners.

Wildcard and winners

In order to be invited to the GBB to compete, beatboxers must record a video of themselves performing an unedited beatbox routine and submit it to Swissbeatbox for judging. Anyone can submit a wildcard, but there are a limited number of spots in the "elimination" round. Usually, the top 2 beatboxers from the previous year’s competition are automatical Alternatively, competitors can win other beatboxing competitions for an invitation. Some examples are the Grand Beatbox Battle 7 to Smoke, the Asia Beatbox Championships, and the Great North Battle. During the first phase of the event, each beatboxer participates in an “Elimination” round, where they perform a routine without an opponent. The panel of judges then decide whom to place in the top 8 to compete tournament-style for the GBB champion title

Judge Pannel

Usually all the judges are past GBB winners or champion of other beatbox championships , there are total 5 judges , they also have a showcase to prove their skills and they can show everyone why they are judges . Some of the best judges are zede (Switzerland) , Skiller (Bulgaria) , Alem (France) etc

Events

Solo

it's the most traditional battle format , two beatboxers compete each other . There are two rounds each of 1 minute and 30 seconds . Most prominent solo beatboxers are B-Art (The Netherlands), D-Low (UK) ,Alem (France) etc

Loopstation

A loopstation battle is a type if battle , in which the beatboxers compete each other using Boss RC-505 .It's a device with which you can repeat sounds and increase/decrease the tempo . Also you can make various sounds , but still you need to beatbox to trigger that sound. The video below will tell you the magic of this device.

Tag Team

Tag Team , as the name suggests , two beatboxers compete with other two beatboxers . Some of the prominent Tag Teams are Mad Twinz (Russia) , Bery (France) , Fabulous Wadness (France)

Tag Team Loop

It's basically two beatboxers with Boss RC-505 compete with other two beatboxers with Boss RC-505. This category was introduced in 2020 and this year GBB is cancelled , so hopefully in 2021 the first battle of Tag Team Loop will happen some of the prominent tag team Loop are ScamTalk (France) , Wolfgang (France)

Crew Team

It's basically , a team of beatboxers compete with other team lf beatboxers . The team consist of 2-5 beatboxers , this category was introduced kn 2020 and this year GBB is cancelled , hopefully we'll see this category in 2021.

Rewards

The champion gets a cash prize , microphones from DPA , headphones , a Boss RC-505 , a trophy , a tablet stating the name of the winner and high chance of being judge for the next GBB. The tablet looks like below.

Well , for non-beatboxers , it may look like an ordinary tablet , but for a beatboxer it's everything.
