# Transformation Matrices

## Scaling Matrix

A scaling to origin matrix augments or diminishes, by a ratio, the distance from a point to the origin. It may compress or stretch this distance.

So lets say we have 2d point ***x,y*** defined as a vertical vector, 

|***x***|\
|***y***|\
|***w***|

We can multiply the 2d point by this matrix to scale ***x*** by 2, ***y*** by 3:

|***2*** 0 0| \
|0 ***3*** 0| \
|0 0 1|

We clearly see a ressemblance with the identity matrix. 

The inverse is easily calculated with the respective scaling numbers reciprocal as 1 over the number:

|***1/2*** 0   0| \
|0   ***1/3*** 0| \
|0   0     1|
