Linux Terminal Commands

"pwd" - Gives the absolute path to the current directory you are in.
"clear" - Clears the terminal screen.
"ls" - Tells you all of the files in the current directory.
"ls -a" - Tells you all of the files in the current directory, including secret flies.
"cd" - Takes you to a directory.
"cd .." - Takes you back to the parent directory.
"mkdir" - Used to create a directory.
"rmdir" - Used to remove an empty directory.
"rm" - Removes a file.
"rm -r" - Removes a directory.
"touch" - Used to create a file.
"man" - Used to show the manual pages on a given command.
"cp" - Used to copy files. Takes two arguments. First it needs to location of the file to be copied, second it needs to location to copy the file to.
"mv" - Used to move files. Works just like the "cp" command above.
"locate" - Used to search linux for a file. You can use "locate -i" to ignore case-sensitivity.

"echo" - Used to move data, usually into a text file. Example: "echo hi there >> new.txt"
"cat" - Used to display the contents of a file.
"df" - Shows you the available disk space on each partitions in your system. "de -m" will show you the results in megabytes.
"du" - Shows you the disk usage of a file in your system. If you want to know the disk space used by a file or directory you can type "du file-name" You can also use "ls -lah" to view the file sizes of all of the files in a folder.
"zip" and "unzip" - Used to compress files into a zip archive. Use unzip to extract the files from the archive.
"uname" - Shows you information about the system your linux disto is running. "uname -a" prints most of the information about the system.
"sudo apt-get" - Works with packages in the Linux command line. This installs packages.
"sudo apt-get update" - This updates your linux package repository.
"sudo apt-get upgrade" - This upgrades the system.
"sudo apt-get dist-upgrade" - Upgrades the distro.
"apt-cache search" - Used to search for packages.
