Women's Day Story

It dates back to 23^rd February 1917. In St Petersburg,Russia, former St Petrograd; On 22nd Feb, a lockout took place at a factory. The next day, workers in fifty factories called a strike in sympathy.In many factories, women led the way to strikes. This day came to be known as International Women's Day.

Why we celebrate it on 8^th March ???

Answer is quiet interesting. Russia followed the Julian calendar until 1^st February, 1918. The country then changed to the Georgian Calendar, which is followed everywhere today. The Georgian dates are 13 days ahead of the Julian dates. Hence, we celebrate International Women's Day on 8^th March.
